The Faculty of Education, UJEP

The Faculty of Education of J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem has existed as a pedagogical, scientific, and cultural educational centre of the region for fifty five years. It represents the largest of the university faculties and within its premises offers resources to 3 300 students in full-time study programs and to 800 students in combined studies.
Eleven scientific and educational institutes, as well as the Centre of Educational Practice, the Foreign Language Centre, the Centre of Intercultural Education, and the Multimedia Department, afford the students´ professional training.

The Faculty is located in three buildings.

  • The departments of English, Czech Studies, Music and Physical Education reside in the building in České mládeže street 8, the departments of Mathematics, Pedagogy, Psychology, Primary Education and Primary Language Education are situated in the UJEP Rectorate building in Hoření street 13.
  • The departments of Visual Arts and Education through Art reside separately in Stará street 2550.
  • The Dean's office of the Pedagogical Faculty is on the second floor of the České mládeže street 8 building.
  • The Vice-Deans´ offices and the Registrar's offices are to be found on the same floor.

Part of the Faculty's facilities is the Central Library, which is located in Pasteurova street 11 (building D on the premises of the former Masaryk Hospital, first floor). The Sports Hall is yet another part of the Faculty of Education. It offers self-realisation in sports not only within the frame of compulsory courses but also in the sphere of free time activities (e.g. a man - made climbing wall).
A well-known feature of the Faculty of Education are the different choirs affiliated to the Department of Music: Cantus Choralis Puelarum (girls' chamber choir), Chorea Academica (mixed choir), and NONA (mixed chamber choir).
All students (not only those in language departments) can take part in different programs allowing them to fulfil a part of their studies at universities in other countries.Students use the University's electronic information system (STAG) accessible via the Internet, where the suggested study plans built up of modules consisting of compulsory, compulsory -selective and optional subjects are advertised.
The study regulations by which students may frame their own study plan for the whole academic year are likewise publicised.
The Faculty has introduced a credit system, which offers students more freedom in framing their individual study plans and enables them to adopt an individual pace of study, or to take up simultaneously an additional teacher- training or other discipline.
The implemented system is compatible with the European Credit System (ECTS)
