The field of study: Music theory and pedagogy
Summary characteristic of the field
Music theory and pedagogy is scientific research. Its purpose is the education of scientific workmen with the ability to operate with creative method in the field of scientific research in the range of music pedagogy and music theory in the whole latitude of this domain incl. the music education with all aspects (historical, actual, systemic…) in the structure of relevant musicological and pedagogical branches.
Conditions of the entrance to studies
The study is conditioned entirely for graduates of some specialisations: music education, musicology, artistic studies.

The Field of Study: Theory of Arts & Crafts

Brief Characteristics of the Course (full-time and part-time)
The course tries to approach Art in the course of the history of Czech education considering also its international aspects and trends since the beginning of this century. There are two basic concepts that create the core of the course, the first is the systems theoretical approach towards Art interpreted in terms of the psychology of perception and creative process and the second is mastering the art form using active educational strategies, including systematic theory of colour. The topics are further elaborated in their didactic applications and both linked and integrated by reflection in terms of philosophical anthropology and ecophilosophy.

The graduate will become a university educated specialist in the field of Arts & Crafts (History and Theory of Art, Aesthetics, Art Pedagogy, knowledge of creative process and print media) enabled to solve professional problems of the field in terms of educational concepts in the social context.

Terms of Admission to the Course
Only university graduates from Pedagogical Faculty holding the degree of Master in Arts & Crafts or graduates from Art universities with pedagogical qualification can apply for admission. The entrance exam will check applicant’s language awareness.
Specifications of the required knowledge:
The course for the doctor’s degree puts an emphasis on the theory of the children’s art expression, comparative theory of pedagogical concepts of Arts & Crafts and theory of Arts and their means of expression (colour). The extent of required knowledge will be specified individually by the Departmental Council.

Terms of Scholarship Allowance
Students may be allowed scholarship covered by the university grant. The scholarship is allowed by the Dean of PF UJEP in accordance with the scholarship regulations. Extra scholarships may be suggested the Departmental Council and allowed by the Dean.

Theory of Arts and Crafts
The Field of Study: Czech studies – theory of education
Type of study: full-time, combined. Three years study, awarded degree Ph.D.
This study is open to the M.A. degree holders from the faculties of education, of arts and other faculties with a degree from Czech studies programs with both pedagogical and non-pedagogical orientation. It is aimed particularly at the teachers of all levels of schools as well as other personnel in the field of education. It offers opportunity to the candidates to gain more knowledge in the field of Czech studies and its didactic applications both for the practical goals as well as training for scholarly work in the area of Czech studies education. This field of study is designed as a linguistic or literary theory curriculum focused on the problems of education, both in schools and outside schools.
Course of the study: The study program comprises two modules. The first one is aimed at the setting up of a broader professional base. It consists of exams from philosophy, education and two foreign languages (normally English, French, German, Russian, Polish, Latin et al.).
The second module comprises Czech studies disciplines – following the choice of the candidate – in linguistic or literary theory field applied to the area of education. The core of the study is a Ph.D. dissertation the topic of which is chosen by the candidate according to his/her orientation. The choice of the topic of the dissertation is relevant for the choice of the intended broader scholarly base.
Areas of topics of the Ph.D. dissertations (selected samples):
Linguistics: selected problems of the field (theory of standard language culture, morphology, syntax, stylistics, textology, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics); theory of communication aiming at the school communication training, relation of linguistics and linguo-didactics, didactics of Czech for primary and secondary schools; Czech as a foreign and/or second language.
Theory of literature: selected problems of the literary history (older Czech literature, literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, contemporary literature, selected problems of children’s and youth literature, problems of the children’s audience, Czech literature in a relation to other literatures in this country; European (global) context of Czech literature, problems of translation; problems of the reception of literary work, questions of the literary canon, selected problems of literary history as a point of departure for the didactic grasping of literature.
Admission examination: The prerequisite is the M.A. degree in the relevant field (possibly combined with philological or other fields) and successful completion of the admission interview. Its essential part of the admission procedure is the presentation (three pages) of the project of the proposed Ph.D. dissertation (the candidate encloses it in written form to the admission application), a verification of the candidates orientation in the field including the presentation of his/her past practice and his/her publication activities.
